Free Seeds Anyone?!



In 1922, the Nebraska newspaper, the Red Cloud Chief, ran this article.   The writer has done an excellent job of untangling this story of free seeds; how it went from a distribution to further economic growth through the introduction of new species to United States agriculture to political  pandering.   The brief glimpses of the people who made this possible, the girls who sealed envelopes of seeds striving to seal more than 20,000 a day because over that they got piecework rates, to the harassed Department of Agriculture men, make this a good read.
